Choosing A High Speed Internet Card For LaptopsFirst laptops were too heavy to carry around. Now they are light. First wireless broadband was exorbitantly expensive...well, it is still expensive, but a high speed Internet card for laptops is within the reach of most people, and I expect that cost will continue to fall as wireless networks expand and technology continues to improve. Five years ago, there were perhaps 3 wifi spots in my hometown. Now I can go from neighborhood to neighborhood, from library to grocery store, and find a wifi spot that I can access. You can purchase a high speed Internet card for laptops from almost any cellular provider. Be aware that the cost up front can be quite high. Some providers rent their broadband high speed cards, which typically plug into a USB port and are quite easy to install. In fact, the software is the most complicated part of the whole process, and even that is as simple as installing a computer game. How does a high speed Internet card for laptops work, exactly? Well, simply put, they allow you access to an Internet Service Provider (ISP) which in turn allows you access to the World Wide Web of information. You can choose to surf the 'Net from the comfort of your home or from an Internet cafe, should you so choose. Although Internet access via high speed cable modem is faster than wireless broadband, in terms of download and upload, the convenience of being able to work from a wide variety of locations is definitely something to consider. If you have to make a choice between one or the other mode of Internet access, I can tell you two things. First, with a high speed internet card for laptops, you will have greater flexibility. Let's face it, a desktop computer just is not all that portable! However, the cost can be prohibitive and the monthly fees can be high, unless your carrier will bundle all your phone and Internet services together for a discount. Second, and last, even with a high speed Internet card for laptops, you are still limited in terms of availability. By this I mean simply that Internet coverage is not complete in all areas of the country and wireless still lags a bit behind the more accessible cable/DSL Internet connections. Having said all of this, it is still absolutely true that the convenience of a high speed internet card for laptops means that you are more flexible than you were in the past. |
